Motivation

Trying to forget that I wrote and photographed so little this past week. The job that pays the bill and many personal obligations impacted the schedule and there were a few days I certainly wasn’t feeling my best. I was getting frustrated that I couldn’t get out and if I was out I was in such a tight schedule that shooting even a few frames seemed impossible. Started to feel some despair about such a slow start to the new year.

Truly when I look back at it, my mental attitude just wasn’t there. I didn’t feel creative. I was worried about the market tanking and further depleting my minimal retirement funds. Hell, some days I think they will be gone before I get there. Would probably been better burying it in my back yard in the wee hours of the morning.

I also found myself questioning why I had to go out and shoot all the time. Well my mindset about that is someday might health might fade where getting “Out” might be difficult so being out and experiencing life and shooting is what I think about accomplishing now.

But I’m going to modify that because there are days I just don’t have it (motivation) or it’s just too cold (like this coming week) or you can’t get out because of snow (will we ever get some) or time and circumstances just don’t make it possible. Therefore I’m going to set up a small studio in my office for those days with limited time to try to get something good in the portfolio.

Last evening was wonderful. I was surrounded by friends. We enjoyed the game, a meal and great company mixed with much laughter. There was also a fine bottle of rum going around. Just the end to the weekend I had hoped for, a good time with my extended family. Which got me thinking how I spend my time. Work takes such a huge chunk of time that fitting all the other needs and time for family and friends is challenging indeed.

Our group even plans well and it’s still difficult at times. But the best thing about it is everyone seems to share the same interest. Getting together as best and often as possible. Its easier when everyone is on the same page and has the same desire. Guess I got lucky and choose my friends wisely.

Random Thoughts for Monday January 11th 2016

  • Traffic, need I say more?
  • If the National College football Championship gets any later, they might be competing with March Madness.
  • A full day without pain killers. Life is good.
  • I will get out and photograph on Tuesday.
  • I have a parking pass again. When you work in D.C., that is a very good thing to have.
  • Funny how when you detect stress in your children that its hard to think about much else till that stress for them is gone.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.

  1. I am excited about being a new subscriber. I remember when you started in the newspaper industry and I have been impressed with your work ethic and skills. I am looking forward to seeing what your gift brings forth. My wife made me a collage from your camera about 18 x 24 of photos of our fishing team in action offshore in south Fla. Your pictures never fail to put a smile on my face and impress me. Thank you
