Ramping up

Seems like everything shifted into overdrive recently. To the number of idiots on the road to pending political crisis and everything else in between. Part of the ramping up will be fun with a big family celebration pending. The job that pays the bills ramping up though is tough. That takes away the creative time from my interest so trying not to get frustrated by the lack of time and energy needed to do what I envision.

But that is life. Adapting and change. It’s constant and if you look at it right it keeps you sharp and healthy for the most part. If you don’t let it develop in bad ways like undue mental stress. I used to stress about the job in an unrealistic fashion, for many decades and with some bad consequences, as some of us do. Actually you would be surprised at the number who do have harder expectations of themselves and the job than they need to or are expected to. I’m not saying dedication to craft isn’t important and always giving your best. But you don’t have to kill yourself over it or put yourself in a position where you can’t deal with other important aspects of life.

Most days you can find me here. The sixth floor of the new Washington Post offices. It’s a good gig and has been for almost 2 decades. One of the top newspapers in the world. Many great people and dedicated beyond compare. An exciting place to work now with all the change. But as I look back over 4 decades it’s always been changing. And yes they might argue that it comes faster and more radical now I’m not so sure. Try creating change with a pad and paper. No internet, no teleconferencing, no cell phones. technology barely out of the stone age. Yes there were Linotype machines when I started.

But the pressure for faster, more innovative and creative is a force driving all the industries competing in the digital world. Hell I feel pressure to expand this blog and my photo and video content as well as all the other cross marketing apps and systems I should be doing. But again pressure and balance. Yes it would be nice to devote the time and learning and effort needed to make a more professional product on my own. But I happy doing the best I can because job 1 is to be happy. Nothing else good happens if I’m in the wrong mindset.

I do have a few days to do some shooting coming up so hopefully this will be the last flower shot of the week. Got to try some more project oriented things instead of this random approach I’ve been applying.

Random Thoughts for Wednesday June 8th 2016

  • I’m seeing some new, talented, interesting and exciting people in the work place. Now if they would just take their collective faces out of their smartphones I’d like to introduce myself of just say hello or have a nice day. And the appropriate response would be hello I’m so and so or hi or you have a good day also. It’s not that hard, it worked for many decades before this.
  • One of these days we might find out how corrupt things really are and then its civil war all over again, but with far better arms.
  • Speaking of which I might make a decision to purchase a handgun. I just like shooting at the range with my Son and having a lunch afterwards. It’s one of the few things I can compete with him at. And I’m surprised with my challenged eyesight. Maybe he is just letting me win at this one thing?
  • Man, am I tired. Time to find that balance and take a nap.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
