Not the day we had planned for. Various illnesses and weather have changed plans and that is ok. Life is about adapting and making the best of things. Sometimes great things are created from almost nothing. That is why I try to keep working even when I’m under the weather.
Saturdays are wonderful. It really is my first day to relax a little. It can also be a day packed full of chores but that is ok because that is a different set of pressures than I fight the rest of the week. It’s nice doing some physical work anyway and getting some exercise.
I had a neighbor who was well into his 90s and he would be out in the yard maintaining it and cutting it. A sturdy man but small in stature. But you didn’t notice that because of the pace and heavy work, he still did. I’d like to be that guy in the future. Still active, still outside, still plugging along every day and experiencing life.
Yesterday I noticed the grass starting to get long. So tomorrow we see if the mower fires up. I might not cut it, because it’s better to start with an oil change and other maintenance checks before challenging that 24-year-old John Deere.
This morning and afternoon we have the pleasure of being with our daughter and her daughter and celebrating a little together.
The evening part of the day is the games later today for the Final Four in men’s basketball (power permitting). I’m also one of those many viewers turning in for the first time looking at the Women’s Championship 4 also. There are some very talented women playing the game and it’s worth taking the time to watch.
I’m on a deadline here to get a post done today and tomorrow before we lose power. We are overdue for that. In past years it isn’t unusual to have multiple outages sometimes for multiple days. We were out a week one time. Many other several-day outages. In the last year and this year so far we have been very lucky. So either BG&E is doing a good job at tree clearing from lines or maybe just fate. Probably a combination of the two. But when I heard on the news this morning of gusts to 65 mph I figured why chance it?
Random Thoughts of the Day (morning edition)
- It feels very strange to be working on a post this early in the day.
- The more hugs you get the easier life is.
- I forgot how much negotiating was needed with young children.
- Iced Tea is becoming a staple for me and it’s not too bad.
- It’s almost time for that first detailing on the car for the cruising season.
- There is so much beauty at every turn this time of the season, it’s hard to get to your destination.
