Flowing

Another water picture to indicate how my weekend is going. That’s because life is flowing smoothly. That calm stream is like my thoughts on this fine day. Ah the first day of February also. Not that dates mean much anymore except for appointments.

I saw my son and his family yesterday and I saw my daughter today. Maybe that is why my spirits are so high. Opportunity to do something special this evening is strong.

Then again so is the throbbing pain in my right foot where I have a severely discolored toe due to ramming it into a piece of ice outside earlier. So, a doctor’s visit might be on the schedule tomorrow in addition to a haircut.

No, I’m not sure what that object is in the water. Photo by Mike Hartley

Being that the treadmill is off the table I’m going to pick up some weights tonight.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • That SNL cold open was a scream last night.
  • The roast for Sunday dinner was great.
  • I could be wrong, but I think this extreme cold has slowed drivers down.
  • Pain can be a re-prioritizer.
  • It seems like the colder it is the more I seem to need rest. Must be that bear in me.

Movement

It’s the weekend so it’s a fluid situation. A swirl of activities, plans and places. As much as possible inside of course. Like this water I’m going to try to increase my movement to keep from freezing over.

There is a sense of urgency in me now again after the holiday season and being under the weather for a while. I have so many half-finished projects that need to be complete. This coming month is a good time to knock all of them out. I’ll refer to it as Finishary.

I have prepped one area for a new display. I’ve decided to expand the large print collection of Arlington National Cemetery and add another wall in the basement to it to help me decide on a final series.

A little more sanding on a wooden mug for an old friend and I can get to carving a special figure into it. His initials are on the other side. I’m thinking of adding his nickname to the piece also but might skip that one.

The list is long of things to complete and there is a task at hand before I get to those things. Plus, it’s still the last day of January so I will get a running start this afternoon.

Have a great morning all.

Hump Day Away

A fine start to the day. My granddaughter spent the night and wanted bacon this morning so I got up early and cooked a pound of it. I love bacon myself. She only ate one slice. And with ketchup. She’s killing me.

Today I caught up with an old friend. One I worked a long time with and who has supported me many times in my life, both personally and professionally. She is a beautiful person inside and out. One that inspires and brings comfort. And as with many friends, one that has seen many struggles and never lets them keep her from moving forward, where many would have stopped before. Another strong woman in my life. I’m blessed with a lot of them.

I can’t wait to see her.

Walking on Water

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • Pets are the true gift.
  • It’s okay to have an opinion. It’s okay to express it. But be prepared to hear an alternative opinion. And if you can’t handle that keep your mouth shut.
  • Do you ever have those days when a particular musical group really touches a note with you?
  • Someone is having trouble controlling the narrative. Could it be Karma is finally growing a backbone.
  • I’m excited about tomorrow. There are a few hours I’ll be in the driver’s seat going through gears repeatedly with the top down and the music flowing with no destination in mind other than looking for some smooth roads without a lot of traffic. There will be stops here and there to pull the camera out and try to capture some local flavor of summer. I’ll put my ice cream gift card in the wallet and treat myself.

Ready for the evening

Feeling like I wasted the day. There is an evening to salvage it though. So lets see if I can get something accomplished before midnight.

I can’t wait till I’m looking out over the water again. Be it sunrise or sunset.

Moving Monday

I’ve been putting on the miles this Monday and if I keep up this pace, I’ll exceed yesterday’s total. So far the knee is holding up. I’d like to say its getting stronger but I’ll be patient.

Along the Patapsco River.

Water reminds me to stay fluid in both body and mind. I’m using some of the time on the treadmill to ease my mind as well.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • I see the Kite Loft in Ocean City will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. I can’t remember taking the time to fly a kite in well over 50 years. I think I’ll purchase one this summer, and be a kid again.
  • I still don’t get what people see in that fake wrestling that is so popular.
  • My apologies, for the idiot trying annex Canada. Most all of us below your southern border don’t want this.
  • I think I’m going to have to resume a med I thought I was finished with.
  • So what did President Musk do today?

Wet

Respect for the wet stuff. Sometimes we take our water supply for granted. This is one of the many natural resources that are under strain. Public infrastructures failing. Too much rain and not enough in others. Water quality is under question.

I think I’ll donate to preserving one of my favorite pieces of water. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is an organization one of my best friends enlightened me about.

I bet we could get water management down for the world if we weren’t spending so much on weapons trying to kill each other. Photo by Mike Hartley

I worry about my water supply. We are on a well. But there is a county dump up the road a few miles and that has always concerned me. I believe I’ll have it tested again. A friend of mine just put in a special filtration system on his well system. I’ll have to visit him and learn about this.

With the cool weather at night now the water temp is bound to start dipping in pools if not the ocean and bay. I see the Ocean City water temp was 74 degrees. Time to get there and get wet now unless you’re into chilly water.

I know one person who doesn’t mind it. My granddaughter, I might set up the sprinkler for her tomorrow. Because she is going to grace our house for the day and I can’t wait for that treat that is her smile and hugs. The laughs are just like a wonderful desert.

Serious thought – My grandson is 2 years old. So when I heard a 2-year-old was hit and killed by the boardwalk tram in Ocean City I haven’t been able to get that out of my mind. It was less than a month ago I was walking with him on that same boardwalk. The pain of that loss has to be unbearable for that family and my heart goes out to them.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • Learning by doing. One of my favorite ways.
  • Sometimes I think I know people. And then I’m surprised.
  • I’m enjoying baseball more and more lately.
  • I knew this streaming stuff was going to get out of hand. I think I’ll start weaning myself away from watching sports and playing instead.
  • A little voice is sitting on my shoulder yelling ROAD TRIP!
