Doors v29.26

I took a walk in my favorite town of Ellicott City Maryland yesterday. I might have shared at least one of these, but people update their doors and storefronts often so her is a smattering of my walk and doors I liked.

The first image on the left below is a new restaurant called River House which I believe is a high-end pizza establishment. We will try it someday soon. It took over for one of the county staples of high-end dining that was there for 50 years I believe.

Some entrances are quite colorful.

The shot of the Main Street Ballroom used to be the basement of the Times Newspapers. The press was right above this. I spend some years in this old building.

Good thing I have a deep vault. I tapped into it again for a few shots from St Michael’s Maryland. I hope to visit the town again this year.

Watching grandchildren all week cut into my shooting time and I didn’t care for what I did shoot so a few from the archive I haven’t used yet.

Noah’s Sno-Ball Shack and Endless Summer Surf Shop in Ocean City Maryland. Being it’s getting so close to the end of the summer season I thought this door in the shadow of the palm tree was fitting for this week.

I took a few too many minutes for fun I guess and didn’t get out for some fresh doors shooting so I had to scan the archive. It’s an odd collection. I know I could have taken a break this week, but I took my vacation weeks from Doors earlier this month, so I’m just getting back on track.

This first home is one that is no more. I’m glad I got a shot of it before it was torn down. I think the previous owners of the home behind it sold and I think that was on their property. Partial door on the lower right side.

Late again but not as bad as last Saturday just under the deadline. Another tight week but I did stop at McDanial College in Westminster MD on my way home from taking care of my daughter’s cats.

I didn’t do this place justice at all. But I will return and give it a proper try again because there is a lot more of this town I hope to share.

I didn’t see any students yet but soon the paths and buildings will be full of them.

I can’t remember which of my children I went with on a college visit for them when they were considering different schools. Personally, I like the feel of small schools like this.

Shooting doors will allow me to combine a few projects I’m thinking about. We have a number of churches with some interesting architecture and while there I’ll see what I can find with doors.

I was in Frederick Maryland on Tuesday this week and captured a few doors. I know I have shot in this town before, but it’s been a few years. My apologies if I’ve captured some previous ones again. If so, I hope, it’s a new angle at least.

Sorry about missing last week. Life kind of got out of hand for a few moments, but I’m back in the driver’s seat. At least this is fresh shooting from this week. Trying my hardest not to reach into the archive.

I can’t resist this town (Ellicott City). One because I love walking it. And several other milestones in life happened here.

Obviously, I’m late for the party this week. Busy schedule and not feeling 100%. But enough with excuses, I made it and even though it’s from the shoot I did the previous week in Annapolis MD. It’s better than missing a week. These didn’t make the cut the last week but being I didn’t get any new shooting done; they are this week’s contribution to the cause.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend. And please pause for those who gave their lives for the freedom we live in today.

This week’s doors are from Annapolis Maryland. A visit on a sunny Tuesday afternoon was a wonderful chance to walk some side streets and capture some of the local decor. Feels good to get some fresh shooting. I’ll have to keep that up for next week also.

And being today is the beginning of Commissioning Week at the United States Naval Academy, I salute the graduating class of 2026 and wish them a great ceremony next Wednesday. GO NAVY – I’ll be photographing the Academy grounds on our next visit there.

Well, I missed posting on Thursday by 40 minutes but better late than never.

Life consumed me again this week. That and poor weather when the opportunity did rise has led me to the photo vault again this week. A mish mash of entrances. Some with an OPEN-DOOR Theme today.

On a trip about 16 years ago to Florida with my best friends, we visited the Navy Seal Museum in Fort Pierce.

I went out yesterday but got sidetracked and didn’t end up shooting new doors so I went to my vault again. Not the best selection I’ve ever posted. The first one qualifies, the second is iffy and the 3rd and 4th shots are partial doors.

My better half and I spent a few days last week in a town called Lauderdale By The Sea just north of Fort Lauderdale Florida. If I wasn’t so busy having fun enjoying the beach, pool, restaurants, shops and hotel so much I would have taken a lot more photos.

The doors in most places were wide open because the weather was so beautiful. The first two doors weren’t by the beach. They were about a mile north of it.

This is always one of my favorites. A door to a door.

Doors V4.26

A change of pace for me getting in on the action early in the day for Thursday Doors. I have a fairly long list of excuses for not shooting new doors, it’s cold, it’s very cold, the snow and ice are making it colder, I know I’d be cold, and I bet the camera batteries don’t like the cold.

Therefore, I have reverted again to my vault of photography.

These were all shot the same day in November of 2018. About 6 months after a nasty flood which destroyed a good portion of the town.

Debris is still in the street’s months later. Almost 10 inches of rain in a few hours and overdeveloped surrounding areas spelled devastation for downtown. This old firehouse sits up on the hill, on Church Road, but Main Street is right beside it, and much was lost there.

Better Thursday

I’m starting to feel human again after a week of fighting the flu. Got a nasty strain that was worse than I could remember one being.

Da Doors

Yesterday we were with family but away from home. When I returned the couch, was the winner over the computer. I guess I’ll squeak in under the window again here. Apologies for the lateness. I didn’t shoot much new this week so I pulled a few from the archive. I was busy with the Dremel tool and paint brush. Trying to learn each.

This first shot is from Old Ellicott City from a while back. It’s from the lower end of town and I’m guessing this merchant lost everything in the flood years back.

Another piece of history that is no more. In the back of the Friendly Inn (closed years ago). The snowball stand. A housing development stands in its place today. Who would have thunk it.

Fresh Doors

I promised myself I wasn’t going to dig into the archive, so I went out and shot a few local doors. And I’m back on schedule for the Thursday Doors event after a few weeks’ hiatus. Hope this has been a good week for everyone.

I went to the down the road to a town called Granite. Just took a few shots but there is much more there.

The plaque to the left on this door above says “This Property has been placed on The National Register of Historic Places by the Department of the United States of the Interior. I couldn’t decide which shot I liked best.

Ah the good old Woodstock in. I parked there to walk some local trails and get a few nature shots.

This is the first home as you enter Granite from Woodstock.

I’ll have to start exploring this neighborhood more. Lots of beautiful homes.

Door maintenance

I ran short of time yesterday and didn’t feel like posting something from the archive. But it was time well spent catching up with a very old friends. I’ll work on maintenance for my scheduling and try to be on time next week.

So, I went out this morning and captured a few images for Thursday Doors in the old mill town of Ellicott City.

Boy it was hot out. I worked up a good sweat coming back up the hill in the sun. I know these guys were going to lose a few pounds in that direct sun all day.

This building sits behind the old Times Newspaper building. I wasn’t there when I worked at the paper in town. I do like the stonework on it.

I think this is the employee entrance to Jackie’s Doll shop.

One of the most abused shots in the history of the county.

If I were to look for an office I kind of like this one.

More Eastern Shore Doors

I haven’t gotten out to shoot squat this week. Watching our granddaughter 3 days and a trip to see an old friend yesterday have eaten my week up so far but I’ll get out tomorrow and do some fresh shooting for next week.

The Lighthouse Club is where we have stayed a few times in Ocean City. It’s one of the few places in Ocean City that sits out by itself. We like doing the offseason in May, September or October where the weather is still warm and the water in the fall is still swimmable.

The bottom floor community area is relaxing if the weather isn’t tops but sitting outside on the rockers and watching the sunset is a real treat.

Mixed Doors

Good morning and welcome to Thursday Doors. For a change of pace, I’m posting on the day this challenge was meant for. I’m trying to accomplish more and if I let less slide, I get more done.

Life and poor weather got in the way of shooting some new images so I’m using up some old photos that I hadn’t posted in this before.

Door time again

Found a few old ones to share for Thursday Doors. From grey to some color. I was going to do some shooting today, but it cleared up and my son took me to a ballgame with his son.

Crap, I missed the Thursday Doors day again. Good thing they have a flexible deadline. I haven’t gotten out to shoot some fresh Thursday Doors, so we have some things from my photo archive. I didn’t realize all the doors I get in shooting places various places.

Follow that guy

I’m a day late again for Thursday Doors. We had grandchild duties yesterday, so I’m claiming a mulligan. Today was shopping and prep for the weekend. I’ll give being on time a shot next week.

An ice cream delivery to The Red Bean Ice Cream and Coffee shop in Annapolis. Any door with ice cream is a winner in my book.

Any Door

I was slack again last week and didn’t post due to recovering from Covid. This week my better half and I took a sanity break at the beach for 2 days. So I’m a day late for the Thursday Doors but better late than never.

Da Doors

What’s behind door #

I took a break over the holiday but I’m back to participate in ThursdayDoors, hopefully for good or bad depending on your take of what come up with.

I saw this dog in the door and didn’t realize how prevalent the reflection would be. And the caution sign on the bottom of the door was just lucky. Proof that just wandering around and keeping your eyes open for anything sometimes results in a fair shot.

The Doors 3

I believe I shot this door below in St Michaels Maryland a few years back. Remember, a few years could be a long time being I’m a senior. It’s one of my favorite shots of a door. Sorry if you’ve seen it before. I think I first published it back in 2014 or 2015.

About 5-6 years ago I was laid up for a couple weeks during the summer and had to have someone else cut the lawn a few times. For that I received a broken slider door. If I had been well enough to pull the mower out of that shed in the background, this wouldn’t have happened. They did replace it but it took like 7 weeks if I remember correctly.

Doors – round 2

Wow, thank you for the feedback and welcome to the ThursdayDoors last week. Like I said, I hope to be a regular contributor. I’m just starting to wade through the previous posts in this area and I’m stunned by the wonderful images.

This first shot below isn’t so much a unique door but the reflection of the crosswalk signs, one on each side of the street reflected in each of the two doors with the arrows pointing opposite directions. I’ll have to go back one morning and see if I can capture it without the truck reflection also.

Enter

Decided to try my hand at something another blogger (thank you Sheree) kind of inspired me to do. To participate in a Thursdaydoors group. She puts so many beautiful doors up on Thursdays so here is my first shot at it. I shot this first one below yesterday. Others are a little older.
